Surf’s up again this Autumn as The BUCS SURF CHAMPIONSHIPS returns to Newquay over the weekend of October 15th – 17th for another epic three day festival of student surfing and partying. With a cutting edge music line up and one of the worlds largest surf competition fields, this years contest combines surfing with an event wrist band giving you access to exclusive club nights, super cool bands and DJs.
Accommodation is all housed in the snazzy surfer’s festival style village which is a mile from the city centre and has music venues, bars and restaurants and surf shops all on one site. Boasting the largest field for a competitive surf contest in Europe and an awesome line up of parties, the action will take place on Fistral Beach, the internationally renowned home of UK surfing by day, with the parties hitting Newquay town and the Surfers Village by night.
After its successful launch last year, the Surfer’s Village returns to Trevelgue Holiday Park; offering all student surfers and spectators an affordable accommodation and mouth-watering line up of live acts and DJ’s for the weekend. Prices for an eight man surf shack start at just £39 and include 3 night’s accommodation and all club entry. For the second year running BUCS have teamed up with event giants Outgoing.co.uk (Snowbombing, Beach Break Live, Summer Break) to offer students a surf, accommodation and party package- that will mark the start of the academic term in style!
Dubstep and DnB pioneers NERO have been confirmed as the Friday night headliners at the Sailors club in Newquay so hold onto your hats! They will be ably supported by local surf pro and aspiring club promoter DJ Josh Hughes, who’ll be playing his own blend of house and electro. As well as a chilled out welcome party featuring acoustic artists on the Thursday night, the Surfers Village will play host to a massive closing party featuring the URBAN KNIGHTS. Their epic audio visual DVJ set will be an immense way to round off the Saturday night.
With 400 competitors taking to the water, the weekend will feature the cream of student surf talent battling it out for individual and team honours. Defending champions Gordon Fontaine of Bournemouth University and Beth Mason of Swansea will also be back and Plymouth and Swansea will no doubt be wanting to hold on to their team titles.
So whether you’re into competing, partying or kicking back and enjoying some of the UK’s best beaches while the water is still warm, the swell is sweet and the summer crowds have disappeared; this year’s competition has something for everyone. Not to be missed!
