Circle One teamed up with Tavistock College surfers to clear 52 bags of rubbish from a local beach.

The Tavistock College Surf Academy supported by Circle One, organised by Pete Keegan and Dan Kinsman, joined with staff, members of the public and students to clean up Tregantle Beach on the south Cornish coast.

Mr Keegan said: “Whitsand Bay is a beautiful spot which suffers from a terrible litter problem. Beach users leave rubbish and the tide dumps marine debris on the rocks.

“Many thanks to all the students, staff and members of the community who helped clean up the beach. More than 50 people removed 52 bin bags packed with rubbish from the small stretch of coast so we made a real difference.”

Helpers carried a large metal canister and pieces of glass off the beach, before all the bags were loaded onto the roof of a van and taken away for safe disposal.

The students were proud of the work they had done and pleased with the support they received from local people.

Teachers Sally Bartlett and Pauline Monk provided food for the hungry volunteers who tucked in to pick-nick in the sun while watching the spectacular 4-6ft surf unloading on the sandbar.  Hard work complete everyone was keen to jump in and wash away the grime by enjoying a fun glassy surf session at Seaton.
