Chris Hines MBE, founder of Surfers Against Sewage – “Britain’s coolest environmental pressure group” (Independent) – and former sustainability director at the Eden Project, will be giving a special talk at The Poly in Falmouth on Wednesday 26th October.

An inspiring driver of positive change, Chris has appeared on everything from Panorama to Newsnight, BBC Children’s TV to giving evidence to Commons and Lords Select Committees and the European Parliament. He received an MBE for “services to the environment” in 2008, was featured as one of the Telegraph’s Eco Heroes and received an Honorary Doctorate of Science from the University of Plymouth in September 2011.

Chris now runs leading environmental consultancy A Grain of Sand and will be presenting ‘Why All of Us Should Be M.A.D (Making A Difference)’ – a talk he has given to the senior management of the National Grid, an audience at Selfridges and presented when he chaired the Scottish Energy & Environment Conference.

“It’s great to be bringing it back to Cornwall,” Chris says. “I believe there’s a deal: we get to live on this amazing planet and should therefore make a difference with our own lives. In the UK, we’re incredibly lucky to have the standard of life that we do, so we should give something back. The power of the individual is huge and we can all make a difference.”

Chris is known as a charismatic and inspiring speaker, and his evening at The Poly – featuring photographs, slides and film – promises to be a night to remember. A must for keen environmentalists, surfers and people who just want to make a difference.
Tickets are priced at £5 and the talk begins at 8pm. People who sign up to become a member of The Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society on the night will have the price of their ticket knocked off their annual membership fee (representing a saving of up to 30%).
