Quiksilver Welsh Nationals 22nd-25th April 2011
This year, the Quiksilver Welsh Nationals will be held over the Easter bank holiday weekend of 22nd-25th of April at Freshwater West, Pembrokeshire. Organisers are hoping to run the event over the Saturday, Sunday, and Monday but may need to utilise the bank holiday Friday, depending on conditions.
The event which showcases Wales’s best surfing talent in a variety of disciplines and age categories is the biggest surfing comp in Wales. With places in the Welsh Senior Team for the forthcoming European Championships up for grabs and with the backing of Quiksilver, the event promises to be bigger and better than ever!
Current Open Champion Adam Jenkins will look to defend his crown from a rejuvenated and fully fit Lloyd Cole who was unable to defend his title last year through injury. The Swansea duo won’t find it easy though as they face an ‘on form’ (and on a hat‐trick) George Schofield, who recently took both Elusive Welsh Open and Tsunami Cup titles.
Away from the men, defending women’s champion Beth Mason faces strong opposition from local girl Jo Dennison and close friend Gwen Spurlock. With the women’s event growing in participation year on year, don’t be surprised to see some new faces causing an upset.
The Quiksilver Welsh Nationals has been blessed over the last few years with excellent conditions and good weather. Organisers will be hoping the good luck remains unchanged and that Fresh West once again provides great waves. With the added bonus of a possible four days competition available, organisers will be able to make to most of what ever Mother Nature offers.
