Following the torrential storms that battled Britain’s shores recently, the last few days have seen some of the best surf of the whole year. As a result, 16 of the country’s specially selected top surfers today battled it out in perfect overhead conditions at Newquay’s Fistral Beach in the UK’s only big wave contest, the 2008 Skinners Gold Rush in association with Ignite Beanies. With some of the best conditions ever witnessed for a contest on UK shores, the O’Neill British Open Championships this weekend set the waves alight with some phenomenal surfing in 4 - 8 foot, clean waves.
As the governing body for surfing in this country the BSA have stated that they are extremely shocked to hear about British Airways’ new policy on baggage and their statement that after the 6th November they will no longer carry surfboards.
