Totally messed up this weekend.

Assumed that while the waves were big they would be totaly messed up because of high onshore winds.

Come Sunday afternoon I found out that there were a couple of good spots around - too late for me though.

Any tips about not being a div next time - nice ones obviuosly.

It seems to me that despite having access to a vast amount of surf reports, spot knowledge and webcams that driving for miles and miles for a decent wave still can't be avoided.

Case study - There was decent 3-4ft wave hitting the south coast, which we can see on the Praa web cam.  MSW saids the swell will last to at least 4pm.   So we head down, which takes 1 1/2hrs  - get there 11am and itsalmost dead flat, with surfers getting out muttering 'it was pumping 2hrs ago!'

My mate from Oz calls the Wavefinder series the 'book of lies' cos it gets you chasing lost causes everywhere.  Still its part of the fun of surfing isn't it!

Whata shame about the wasted trip - but I think you made the right call.

You've got to turn up to surf in the first place.  So while the swell's not looking to big this weekend

I'm still going to turn up somewhere.

I think your mate's got a good turn of phrase - the Ozzies seem to find a qay of summing something up

in a way nobody else can.  Not much fun for them at the moment though, so I hope he's not affected

by the floods.

he's in Perth, so no worries.  I did work around Northern Queensland and in Victoria ( including Shepperton ) so know many of the areas hit.  Shocking news, puts it all into perspective really.

Just had a couple of days of surfing in Newquay over the last week and is it me or have none of the Newquay beaches got any decent banks !!  if you know of any can you PM me, wouldn't want everyone knowing about them ;)
