The songs are quite simply structured, often with the basic melody looped over a prominent thumping bass guitar or piano riff. Don't get me wrong, each is enjoyable, pleasant and emotive. Macleod can sing well enough and play competently (playing most of the instruments himself) and the words do tell a little story, giving an insight into the life of the man.

However, in a world where most musical genres are over saturated with choice, and genius isn't easily recognized until well after the fact, why choose TBWTTS over say....Scott Matthews, Nick Drake, or any number of artists providing similar sounds, insights and musical fare?

For me, I just can't get past the fact that the name The Boy Who Trapped The Sun just sounds a little long winded and pretentious. The kind of name I would have dreamed up for my desired band when I was a teenage goth sat alone in my room waiting for my black nail varnish to dry (and probably getting a little high off the fumes at the same time).

So what I'm saying is check Macleod (or TBWTTS...whatever) out. Listen to the cd. Maybe go and check him out live. Maybe he'll be a really nice guy who's up for a chat and you'll get along. Maybe he'll be genuinely humble and fragile, and that might appeal to you. Or perhaps his songs words will resonate with some situation in your own life. Surely, in a world of too much choice, that's as good a reason as you need to like one singer/songwriter over the others.

Right now the sun is shining and I'm in a pretty good place in life, so that's why he just doesn't click with me.
